Inhabits steep outer reef slopes; in ledges and caves. Shy species, not easily approached at close range. Usually observed singly, almost always upside down in reef caves; also forms pairs or small groups. Natural diet unknown. Sometimes forms hybrids with Centropyge multifasciata.
